Syria War Decided Abroad
MARSAL COMMENTS: The US, UK, EU, Turkey, Russia and the Arab countries have been deciding the war in Syria for the past 6 years. Now another decision is under process; Russian and Turkish presidents will meet in Moscow tomorrow (March 10th) to work out four important next steps.
Firstly, the continued military cooperation between Russia and Turkey. Second, the continuing peace talks in Kazakhstan, and the possibility of including the US, Saudi and Qatar. Third, Turkish participation in the liberation of Raqqa. Fourth, the future of the Kurdish fighting forces.
Turkey’s present rift with the West has made it more pliable to reasonable discussions with the Russians on Raqqa, Manbij, Al-Bab, and the Kurds. How flexible will they be, and how long will their rift with the US and West last? There are no guarantees.
EFFECT PERIOD: (Short Term)
IMPACT POTENTIAL: (Positive)
